He was destined before the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of the ages for your sake. Through him you have come to trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are set on God. Now that you have purified your souls by your obedience to the truth so that you have genuine mutual love, love one another deeply from the heart. You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.

A wise person once told me to pay attention to the phrase "so that" in the scriptures. It is one of those phrases that points to the purpose or the important idea. Before that phrase comes a big statement with grand words and phrases like: "destined" "foundation of the world" "end of the ages" and "raised from the dead." Then comes that "so that." All of that for the sake of you and me and our relationship with God. Then more grand words and phrases like: "purified souls" and "obedience to the truth." For what? SO THAT we will love each other genuinely and deeply. It's "after Easter." A fool says, "So what?" A wise person is spreading love like wildflowers.

Holy God, may we this day share the love you have given us. Amen.
