Luke 3: 1-2
In the fifteenth year of the reign of Emperor Tiberius, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was ruler of Galilee, and his brother Philip ruler of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias ruler of Abilene, during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.

Let's see....an emperor, a governor, three rulers, and a couple high priests. And the word of God came to a scruffy mountain man who ate organic and made his own clothes.  Long before the Lord, the giver of life, lands in an animal stall of a small town, we get a hint that maybe God is unimpressed with the powers that be. God was not going to save the world through governments or power-structures or law-givers or local representatives or religious leaders. God was breaking into this world that has a fascination for political posturing and moral self-righteousness and ignoring it all completely.  Imagine that.

It is a miracle that your word came inspite of us, Lord.  Amen.
