John 2:3-5
When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Had a conversation the other day in which there were three voices of authority: Jesus, a parent, me. Long story short,  Jesus and I tied for last place.  When the family card is played, the conversation is over.  Family first.  In this weird little kerfluffle between Jesus and his mother, there is an authority issue happening.  Mary tells Jesus what to do. Jesus questions her authority.  Mary exercises her authority again but with servants who do what they are told by a female guest who had no authority to issue orders. What Jesus does next is all that matters.  No matter what our priorities are, no matter what voices of authority are in our lives,  what Jesus does next is all that matters.

Sometimes you confuse me, Lord, but to whom shall I go?  I will follow you. Amen
