Mark 7:20-22
And he said, “It is what comes out of a person that defiles. For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly."

[Warning: Graphic verbal image] The stomach naturally produces an acidic swill in order to break down the food we put into it.  For a variety of different reasons, that acidic swill gets overwhelmed, producing more swill and that's not good for us and so the muscle bouncers of the body fling the offending combination of acid and food outside the body through the nearest door.  I apologize for the graphic nature of the image but I did warn you.  Evil builds up in us and when it comes out it isn't pretty.  We may blame it on something outside ourselves, but we are often willing participants. We are not perfect beings nor can we achieve perfection but we can be more self-aware of the destructive forces that exist within us. When we know when a thought or feeling will lead to nothing good, we can be more careful.

We are capable of great love and great destruction. May we use our freedom to choose well.  Amen.
