Matthew 5: 15-16 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. * * * * * * * * "Let your light so shine...." are the words spoken at a person's baptism. God has done the heavy lifting. The saving. The forgiving. The new life. All that is left is the shouting. The press release. What good comes from this newly wet life glistens with the glory of God. It would seem incredibly silly to hide that life. We sometimes do more than just hide. We hoard it. We turn the basket into a bucket list and collect life as if it were something to collect rather than the light to shine. So...shine. Go ahead. You can, you know. * * * * * * * * Holy God, may we understand the waters of our baptism as the fuel for your light. Amen.
