Mark 9: 36-37 Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.” * * * * * * * * But Jesus, what if the child is a refugee? What if the child just crossed the border without its parents? What if the child is already addicted to illegal drugs? What if the child is ______(fill in the blank). This should be a no-brainer, right? What ever the "what if," the answer is "welcome." We have the freedom to shut the door as long as we remember in whose face we are shutting it. The best hope we have in clinging to our own best humanity is remembering what it is like to be that child in Jesus' arms. * * * * * * * * We are your children, Lord. May we act like it. Amen.
