“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.

I believe that people who know they are loved can do amazing things with their lives. Jesus was called God's beloved one. That love freed him and launched him with life-changing force into the world. Jesus did amazing things. With demons. With disease. With storms. With a motley band of people. And the world killed him. The world killed God's beloved one. God so loved the world that God did not armor up and say, "Never again. Never again will I allow myself to love anyone again. Never again will I let my heart be so utterly crushed." God gave us the best love. The world gave God the worst it could do. God kept loving the world through the cross and back to life. We can do amazing things with this life when we know we are loved. Maybe the most amazing thing we ever do in this life is dare to love a world or anyone who could break our hearts.

I know I don't love as well as you, Lord, but I am willing to work at it forever. Amen.
