2 Kings 4:42-44
A man came from Baal-shalishah, bringing food from the first fruits to the man of God: twenty loaves of barley and fresh ears of grain in his sack. Elisha said, “Give it to the people and let them eat.” But his servant said, “How can I set this before a hundred people?” So he repeated, “Give it to the people and let them eat, for thus says the Lord, ‘They shall eat and have some left.’” He set it before them, they ate, and had some left, according to the word of the Lord.

......And that, dear children, is the first recorded occurrance in human history of the phenomena known as "Enough Food Anxiety." The disorder has reared its head in just about every holiday household kitchen and in every church kitchen since ancient of days. The idea of offering NO food is far less embarrassing that offering TOO LITTLE food. Yes, odd, indeed. The prophet's prescription for this anxiety was one which would be repeated centuries later when the disciples of Jesus were presented with the task to feed the multitudes. Both the prophet and Jesus addressed their anxiety by saying, in essence, "GET OVER IT! Feed the people." We have people nearby who don't know where their next meal is coming from. That is real food anxiety. We need to get over ours and feed them. Because Jesus told us to.
