See, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. But for you who revere my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings.

The texts I use for ELOGOS are based on the texts appointed for the up-coming Sunday worship readings. In other words, I didn't pick this text. I was tempted not to use this Malachi text because people layer what is going on in their lives over the scriptures and read what they want to hear. They will disagree on who the arrogant and the evildoers are. I do that too. The scriptures were not passed down to us as a Ouja board or astrological tidbit to read into it what we want to hear in order to justify our thoughts, our way of life, our world view. The scriptures are the bloodied voices of those whose lives were vessels for a story that is stretching its wings. The scriptures are the shattered bodies of prisoners of hope who have a story that only the bloodied and the humble can hear and know how to tell and why they are telling it.
