Acts 2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. * * * * * * * My congregation has a gathering at dusk on Mondays. We call it 1st Church. It is shaped by this verse in Acts that gives us a glimpse of the Church in the first century. Teaching, fellowship, communion, prayers. These are the basics. The supplies needed could fit in a backpack. I lose sleep on a regular basis about the future of the Christian Church, but I am catapulted with hope into each new day by the vision of the 1st Church and the needs of those right now. Death has no dominion and everything we need to be the Body of Christ in the world today can fit in a backpack and in a gathering of sinners. From the first century forward, the Body of Christ is alive and well. * * * * * * * Holy God, bless our simple gatherings with your power and purpose. Amen.
