At that time Michael, the great prince, the protector of your people, shall arise. There shall be a time of anguish, such as has never occurred since nations first came into existence. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book.

The people of God in every age have looked for champions to lead, to conquer, to heal. In ancient days, that longing was crafted as story of warrior angels or kings. We want to know that God is active in this present age, that God is indeed the ruler over heaven and earth. One of the important tasks of the people of God is to discern God's presence. For precisely that reason, I often ask "Where have you seen Jesus today?" I asked that question again this morning. A person who is an assisted-living resident told me a story of one of her neighbors who always eats with another man in the dining room and helps him eat and opens up the packet of sugar for his tea. Warrior angels have wonderful disguises, but they are everywhere, perhaps even in you and me.
