Deuteronomy 30: 17-18
But if your heart turns away and you do not hear, but are led astray to bow down to other gods and serve them, I declare to you today that you shall perish; you shall not live long in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.

"You want to know the truth? You can't handle the truth!" Great movie line. We want to know the truth until we don't want to know the truth. There is a God. This God means well. This God chooses to give us freedom and seeks our best interest. This God gives us a way to respond to such goodness with obedience to rules that will keep our relationships vital and our property safe. Sounds good until it doesn't sound good. We want more. We want to be the one who decides what is good and bad. Bad move, tough consequences. We will die. Oh, the death may not happen by sword or firing squad or poison slipped into the casserole. The death may come in a lifetime of paper-cuts to a heart that is so hidden that it doesn't know it is bleeding to death. "Choose life," says the Lord. " I am the one who has led you thus far and I will lead you home. Please, please....I am begging you. Choose life."

Holy God, find us when we stray from you and it is okay if you read us the riot act all the way home. Amen.
