2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

If my parents were alive today, I would thank them for keeping an eye on me at the beach while I played in the ocean. Very near-sighted, I couldn't see them and couldn't see when the tidal currents were pulling me too far away. I would hear their voice and move closer to the sound of it. Because of the safety of their presence, I experienced the freedom to play. Adulthood brings the burdens of responsibility that choke the life out of that playful ocean of freedom. But when I am aware of the Lord, when I hear that voice and lean closer to it, I am immediately aware of a weight lifted off my shoulders. I experience the freedom of a child completely trusting that these waves of responsibility will not so overwhelm me that I cannot splash around a bit.

Make us ever aware of your presence, Lord. Amen.
