Hebrews 12:1-2b
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith

1st Church is our Monday evening worship experiment.  Based on what we know of 1st Century gatherings from Acts 2:42, we gather informally and simply for caring conversation, prayer, scriptures and communion.  It is an offering of cloud. Last night we spoke of our discouragements. One man spoke of the recent death in his family and uncertainty at work. Another spoke of the limitations of physical ailments. Another spoke of a broken heart.  And then we listened to the scriptures speak of Abraham and Sarah. We listened to our own voices which were still filled with grief and fear speak the most faithful and miraculous words: "But God....."  Even in the darkest room, through the thickest cloud, light finds a way to shine. The cloud was transformed from death to life.  It became a gathering of witnesses. Jesus is constantly at work rolling the stone away from our tombs.

Grant us the faith we need for this day, Lord. Amen.
