James 5: 16
Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.

From time to time, I use the church directory as a pray book.  I look at the names, see the faces as best as I can in my old mind's eye, recall what I know of the burdens they bear and the gifts that they are to our faith community.  It is such an overwhelming exercise I rarely get to the middle of the alphabet much less the end. And so I start the next day in the middle and the next at the end.  And some days, I confess to not praying at all because I carry the day around on my own shoulder thinking that it belongs to me.  It is God who makes me righteous and who makes prayer powerful and effective. I forget that prayer is as simple as leaning in.

Lord, in your mercy, hear my prayer. Amen.
