I Corinthians 8:1a-3
Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. Anyone who claims to know something does not yet have the necessary knowledge; but anyone who loves God is known by him.

Back in the day I called my "Jesus U" period of conservative, evangelical, born-again, washed-in-the-blood-of -Lamb-Praise-Jesusness, I was obnoxious. I was horribly judgemental. I thought I had the secret sauce recipe for the Kingdom of Heaven. I could tell in a blink who was "in" and who was "out" - who was "lost" and who was "found." I can only be grateful that the period didn't last long because I could have hurt a lot more people than I did. I thought I knew something. What I didn't do was love anyone. That is what happens when we draw a line, that becomes a boundary, that becomes a wall, that becomes a tomb. We have made this journey a thousand time more complicated than it needs to be and every once in a while, we see that and make a course correction not for anyone else but ourselves. We are a people who need to be loved and we are a people capable of loving others. When we figure that out, suddenly there is God.

Holy God, open my heart. Amen.
