I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you.

The more I learn, the more I learn that all that matters is Jesus. For centuries people within and outside the faith respond with skepticism. It can't be that simple. There must be more. More theology. More rules. Just more. We look passed Jesus for whatever "more" is. If we don't find enough "more" then we invent it. My bookshelf is lined with those inventions of "more." I worry about my own ever-shortening attention span and my increasing impatience with our compulsive tendency to look for more when we don't know what we already have. Coming to know Jesus is a way of life. As we come to know him, we discover a hope that sustains us and a purpose that propels us. What more could we want? What more do we need? As the song says, "Commit your hearts to seek the paths which Christ has trod and quickened by the Spirit's power, rise up O saints of God."

Lord, may we learn all that we need to know by your side. Amen.
