For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, “The one who is righteous will live by faith.”

I admit I am attracted to the outrageous promise of the Gospel. I have a healthy skepticism of most promises that come my way. I protect my possessions and my sanity with a highly sensitive detector of stinky refuse. I am ever-so-careful not to pollute by spewing out promises that I can't keep, though, I have indeed broken my word along the way. Yet, the promise of God of life is so gaudy a claim, so in-our-faces outrageously illogical that I can't help to turn toward it, if only with the muscle of wishful thinking. Some days, I am more like Paul - unashamed of the Gospel and daring to wear the faith boldly like clothes that are not fashionable....yet.

Grant us the courage, Lord, to wear our faith. Amen.
