I Thessalonians 5: 12-13, 16-18
But we appeal to you, brothers and sisters, to respect those who labor among you, and have charge of you in the Lord and admonish you; esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.....Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

I have a friend and colleague who uses the following words for the closing dismissal of worship: "Life is short, and we do not have much time to gladden the hearts of those who journey the road with us. So be swift to love, and make haste to be kind. Go in peace to love and serve the Lord!" These words do not do justice to the way in which I have witnessed her deliver them. She floats halfway down the aisle with vestment wings flapping and tossing the words over heads into the sanctified rafters like a renaissance juggler lofting brightly colored balls. Now THAT'S the way to do liturgy - the work of the people. Rejoice aways....for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

We give thanks for all those who labor among us. Amen.
