Psalm 123: 3-4
Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us, for we have had more than enough of contempt. Our soul has had more than its fill of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud.

The news of church members shot and church building burned is leveling us with sadness and breeding more contempt for those who show contempt. The cycle continues. A hurricane starts with a puff of wind. Hateful acts begin with thoughtless comments muttered into the minds of our sons and daughters. A foul word on a puff of air breathed into unsuspecting lungs and we become poison. When a cyclone of weather forms, I have taken to praying that the wind sit down. So now, I pray that the cycle of hatred and distrust sit down. Be still.

Let there be peace and let it begin with me. Amen.
