Psalm 34: 17-19
When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord rescues them from them all.

Let's say we define "righteous" as being right with God. That would be an important piece of information to have. We would like to know our status with God. That, however, because it is God's business, is privileged information, on a need-to-know-basis, and frankly, we don't need to know. If we had that information, we would abuse it in a heartbeat. So our relationship with God is based on trust. We trust that God with us. We trust God to give us what we need. Being righteous is not anything we can achieve or use to define ourselves. It is something that God makes of us. It is the difference of living our lives feeling entitled, feeling we deserve better versus living a thankful life.
