Matthew 11: 28
“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

What is it about these words which create an immediate feeling for me of the kind of peace that comes from an early summer evening porch, a comfortable chair and a breeze that gently brushes the bugs away? What is it about these words that feel like strong arms enfolding us as surely as they are muting the explosion of the day? What is it about these words that are clean sheets and a cool pillow? What is it about these words that turn toiling into joy? And yet, these words also trigger our defenses. A warning of "Too good to be true" vibrates our senses. The power of these words to gather our shattered pieces and touch what is left of our battered souls is the One who speaks them.

I believe you, Jesus, may I sit down? Amen.
