Psalm 121: 1-2
I lift up my eyes to the hills— from where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

I don't live in a place with hills. In fact, I would have to drive several hours to get to the part of the state that has enough hills that it is actually known as the Hill Country. But still, I know what it is to lift my eyes and plea for help. The act of lifting one's eyes to whatever might be helpful on the horizon is a natural act. We look up to scan the horizon line wherever it takes us. We ask ourselves the question "From where will my help come?" until it burst forth beyond a whispered sigh to a shout that shatters the silence. The answer stands in the glistening clearing. The One who made us from the primordial ooze of stars and earth colliding is not a billion light years removed from our weakened knees but standing with heart outstretched within the sound of our voice and our vision.

Oh, there you are, Lord. Have you been standing there the whole time? Amen.
