Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.
Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!
If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?
But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered.
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope

Humanity seems to do a lot of messing up, crying and waiting. We are sent into the depths by what happens around us and by what we have done to ourselves. Our response in the pit is to use the only device that has a chance of rising out of the hole of our despair - our voice. We deserve just about every "Look what you have gotten into" we have ever heard back. We languish and finally acknowledge the need for constant help. I dig the hole deeper when I think I can change my own humanity. So the best choice I have is to lean into it. We have messed up....again. We cry out of the depths....again. We wait for the Lord.....again. All because God himself left messages on the wall of this familiar pit to give God's messy humans hope.
