James 1: 18-21
In fulfillment of his own purpose he gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would become a kind of first fruits of his creatures. You must understand this, my beloved: let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger; for your anger does not produce God’s righteousness. Therefore rid yourselves of all sordidness and rank growth of wickedness, and welcome with meekness the implanted word that has the power to save your souls.

The truth is in us. If ever there was a time when we needed to discern truth, this is it. We have had the luxury or the laziness of looking to others we trust to present truth to us as if on an exquisitely displayed dessert plate by a cloth-draped arm of a silent waiter. We are born with the divine spark, the truth within us and yet we stare at empty place settings waiting for it to appear before us. If it does not, then comes the barking orders, snapping fingers, jabbing our words like weapons to cause a wound. We need to holster our angry words. We need to listen. We need to take care before we speak. We need to understand our explosions won't help us see what we need to see. What there is to see is implanted within us. In the quiet, emptiness truth moves within us like a rabbit, silent and unafraid, through the grass laden with morning dew. Recognizing that it is within us, within our soul's reach is the beginning of salvation and perhaps even the redemption of our time.

Divine spirit of truth, be ever before us and give us peace. Amen.
