Psalm 116:1-4
I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my supplications.
Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish. Then I called on the name of the Lord: “O Lord, I pray, save my life!”

I am ever mindful of the wealth and privilege of my life. I live in a house that would look palatial to many. Within a few steps, I have an abundance of water which I trust will not make me gravely ill or kill me. I am never without food. I have so many clothes I have to choose what to wear each day. No one is shooting at me. And yet, I suffer the stress of one who feels like the sky is falling. There is an infinite patience of a God who listens to my cry for help even as he is hearing the same cry from a person in real danger. I wouldn't blame God if he rolls his eyes at me. Perhaps God greatest grace is in helping me to see, at least, in part what I can do to help others in need.

Give me a heart like yours, Oh God. Amen.
