Jeremiah 31:33-34
But this covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. No longer shall they teach one another, or say to each other, "Know the Lord," for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more.

We want to know God, but when was the last time we answered the question, "So what did you do today?" with the response, "I really made some headway in my hunger to know God."  Rarely does "Know God" land on our "To Do" lists though I admit, with some chagrin, that I have had to put "PRAY" on my list from time to time to keep me from blazing through a day without so much as a nod to God. We have a fleeting curiosity about God and sometimes a genuine hunger that comes and goes. We have to be reminded that knowing God is worthwhile. We will pursue it if we are convinced that there is something "in it for us." And so, throughout the history of the people of God, we have been sent prophets to remind us to "know the Lord." It is ironic to me that while we are busy trying to remember God, God is busy forgetting our sins - including our forgetfulness. The part of God which is the most knowable is his willingness to forgive us for forgetting him.

Lord, thank you for loving us and may we learn not to make it so hard.  Amen.
