Isaiah 50:4
The Lord God has given me the tongue of a teacher, that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word. Morning by morning he wakens - wakens my ear to listen as those who are taught.

Several decades ago, a goat-herd looking for a lost goat threw a rock into a cave and heard something shatter. What he found were large clay pots containing ancient scrolls. The discovery came to be known as the Dead Sea Scrolls which included the largest, oldest, and most complete version of the book of Isaiah found to date. A treasure in an earthen vessel indeed. God through the ages has given us everything we needed to know in order to be God's people. Teaching and learning are at the heartbeat of what it means to be God's people. We are given the ears to hear. We are wakened in the morning by the whisper of his grace. We are given the tongue to speak of what we have seen and heard. We are a treasure in an earthen vessel to be a treasure for an earthen vessel.

Holy God, awaken in us the words that you whispered to us throughout our lives so that we might speak. Amen.
