Isaiah 49:6
He says, “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the survivors of Israel; I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”

There was a time when my world did not extend passed my fingers and toes. As I grew up, my world expanded to my house, the field and forest in back of my house, the street between my house and my elementary school and beyond. Somewhere along the way, the expansion of my slowed its pace to the distance I could drive in a few hours. When you live in Texas, that means Texas is, as the saying goes, like a whole other country. Add to that the physical limitations of aging and fear of the unknown, one's world can stay relatively small. Israel was content to have its own sliver of land believing that was God's end game. A sliver of land on the planet equals the Kingdom of God? Isaiah served, as did the other prophets, to shatter their bubble and dream bigger. We can do better by our God by not closing ourselves off and making our world small. Our fingers and toes have better things to do and people to love. Let's figure out a way to talk with each other.

Let there be peace and let it begin with me. Amen.
