Matthew 16:24-25
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.

Few parents want to hear their children described as followers.  There are too many potential bad influences in the world.  We value those who stand up for themselves, who are independent thinkers and who are not swayed by those around them.  Following, by its nature, means relinquishing some power and decision-making to another.  It is a dangerous world.  Trusting others is an absolute necessity in our lives together and risky.  Who can we trust? Blessedly, Jesus isn't a brain-washer. Jesus likes our brains just fine, so much so that he wants to keep them alive and well.

Where do you want to go today, Lord?  Amen
