I continue to be amazed at how deep the hunger of our soul is for a sense of place, a need to belong.  This passage is read so often at funerals because it is comforting to think of our departed loved ones in a place where they are loved and where they are at peace.  We will put up with much turmoil on a journey if we know that there is a comfortable place waiting for us at journey's end.  Jesus offers us what we need in both the destination and the journey.  Jesus is both home and a clean, well-lighted diner in the middle of the night shift.
