Isaiah 53:3
He was despised and rejected by others; a man of suffering and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom others hide their faces he was despised, and we held him of no account.

Faces writhe in agony for the loss of their children in waters near South Korea.  Faces on the other side of the world slip into hopeless despair with no answers why their loved ones disappeared in thin air. A mudslide scrapes homes and lives off the face of the earth.  We know grief because we know love.  If we did not love, we would hold these deaths of no account.  Jesus was acquainted with grief because he loves us.  He leaned into our pain, our death, our grief and placed himself as a seal upon our heart because he held us in such regard.

Precious Lord, wrap your scarred and living arms around all those who are acquainted with grief. Amen.
