I Kings 19:9
At that place he came to a cave, and spent the night there. Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” * * * * * * * * Elijah was hiding. Prophets did that alot. They had an awful job of holding up a mirror to God's people and God's leaders and telling them to get their act together. Prophets had a thankless job, few friends and no one who really understood them. Except God. God came to Elijah to comfort him and send him on his way. We have been a people of cave-dwellers. We build our own caves now but they are caves nonetheless. We often face thankless tasks and lonely stretches of our journey. We often get anger with the God who sent us into the world with the overwhelming task of loving it. So we dwell in caves until the word of the Lord comes to us. * * * * * * * * What ARE we doing here, Lord, and tell us again what you wanted us to do? Amen ******************************************************* ELOGOS is written by Deb Grant, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, Dickinson, Texas. Replies to ELOGOS are read only by Pastor Grant.
