Daniel 7:14
To him was given dominion and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his
kingship is one that shall never be destroyed.

"The Godfather" trilogy of movies was one of the great film epics of all time. Brilliant script,
great acting, impeccable direction. The greatness of the story for me is in that it told the
truth about the nature of sin. We can play at being God. We can make the rules. We
can even make rules that sound good - "you never betray the family" - but Michael
Corleone had to choose between the rule and the life of his own brother who had
violated the rule. He could not invent a Savior. It is the classic tragedy of the fall of
humanity. The history of humanity is filled with true stories of dominions that come
and go, kingships that pass away. Whether it be on a national scale or within the realm
of our own household, we choose to be God or serve God. The rogues gallery of those
who have made tragic choices hang on the walls of our journey in our fiction and our
non-fiction to warn us and guide us to the way of peace.

Holy God, may we choose wisely in this day. Amen.
