For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

This is, arguably, one of the most annoying and comforting verses in scripture. Using our gifts and honoring our calling can be meaningful and fulfilling. There are times when we want to sweep them off the desk and walk away. But in my own experience, there is this boomerang effect. The gifts and the call of God are as difficult to swat as a mosquito in the middle of the night. When we finally exhaust ourselves, the comforting part is that God's got us and is never going to let us go.

We can learn and do so much more, Lord, when we are not working against you. Amen.
