I Peter 3:
But in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you

When was the last time anyone demanded from you an accounting for the hope that is in you? There are people who seem to walk around in haze of sugary optimism that appears so disconnected from reality that we don't even bother to ask anything more serious than "What planet are you from?" And then there are those who are battle-scarred but still offer up a cool drink of water in the heat of hopelessness. We want to know where that water came from. We want to know what makes that person tick because we want what they have - hope that is rooted in something beyond ourselves. The next time you see that person, ask them to account for the hope that is in them. When someone who needs hope sees it in you, may you have the wisdom and the courage to say Jesus' name.

May others see Jesus in us this day. Amen.
