I Corinthians 1:26-29
Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, so that no one might boast in the presence of God.

The Corinthian Christian community had a self-esteem problem. They had an abundance of self-esteem. They had an abundance of leaders who thought they were the bee's knees, groovy, cool, sick, or falawesome(ELOGOS likes to show how multi-generational it is because ELOGOS also thinks too much of itself). We try to put our own ego in check and over-correct with self-loathing. Like the trends for cool-ness that move at light-speed these days, we lose our footing and even worse, we lose the truth. There is a sense of wonder about standing in the presence of God to remind us of who we are not and how valued we still are.

Very cool, Lord, very cool. Amen.
