John 17:3-4
And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do.

Quentin Crisp said, "Life was a funny thing that happened to me on the way to the grave."  Most people don't have the luxury to wax philosophically about the nature of life and death.  Most are using all the resources available to them to survive.  Those of us with the time to ponder are more likely to define life as what happens before we die. We define eternal life in terms of time as well. What would an eternity of life look like when we multiple to infinity the days that we know?  Jesus defines eternal life based not on time but on a relationship. Our relationship with God defines our life and our eternity.  For now, in this eternal life, we have work to do just as Jesus had work to do. We do the work because it witnesses to the life we have in relationship with God. This eternal life has already begun.

Holy God, you are the measure of our days.  Amen.
