I Thessalonians 5:4-5
But you, beloved, are not in darkness, for that day to surprise you like a thief; for you are all children of light and children of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness.

I had a poster in my childhood room. It bore a quote of Pope John the 23rd. It said, "There will always be a lamp shining in my window. All may come in. The arms of a friend are waiting."  I believe that we are, indeed, children of light.  I believe that light was given to us for the sake of others.  The words of Roman Catholic pope on the wall of a lonely, little girl helped to light a flame that has never gone out. The fact that the little girl grew up to be a Lutheran pastor is an amusement to me but also a testimony that the light is light. The quote also hangs on the wall of a beloved person pursuing a career in counseling especially to those who have been marginalized into the darkness.  The light has no label. It is true and free to all.  We work together to fight back the darkness.

This little light of mine, I'm gunna let it shine.  Amen
