Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God;
who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free;
the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous.

One of the many things I really like about Jesus is that after encountering him people were given clarity, inspiration, healing, hope or all of the above. They walked away more wonderfully human, or painfully human but definitely more human. They were better having met him than not. They were lifted up. They were given the opportunity to be more than they could have imagined when they first swung legs over the edge of the bed in the morning. When we hear that we are being called to be followers of Jesus, it means something bold. With every human encounter we are being called to give clarity, inspiration, healing and/or hope. Tall order. But it is worth getting out of bed to try.
