Psalm 149:4-5 For the Lord takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with victory. Let the faithful exult in glory; let them sing for joy on their couches. * * * * * * * The psalmist could never imagine a time such as ours when couches would be the stadium seat for most people watching a sporting event. The fist-pumping whoops and guttural expressions exploding in the air are moments of pure exaltation. The pew, with some exceptions, is less likely to be the venue for these moments. Watching sports, we push the world away for a little while. In the pew, we carry the world with us and it has a dampening effect. However, when we are so bold as to sing, to punch an "Alleluia" through the shadow of sin and death, we are not just spectators. We are victors. * * * * * * * Thanks be to God who gives us the victory. Amen.
